My Acne Story

I was drying out my skin for years with acne products - my skin was producing oil to make up for drying it out. When I got off the toxic acne products my skin was purging

It had been 10 years since I started using Proactiv and I woke up one morning at a friends lake house and saw that I had bleached their navy blue pillow case. I was mortified. What was I putting on my face!?

I had tried getting off Proactiv a few times before, but every time I would break out like crazy. It made me super disappointed that I had fallen for celebrity endorsements at such a young age - with barely any acne.

A few months later I decided it was time to give up my Proactiv and ride it out until I could find something that wasn’t as toxic for my skin. After all, 80% of what you put on your skin will get absorbed into your blood stream AND the USA FDA only bans around 30 chemicals.

My skin was purging with cystic acne. I didn’t want to leave the house, I would often cry a lot about my skin, and my self esteem was lower than ever. I wanted to give up and go right back to Proactiv, but Arbonne was introduced to me through my mom’s cousin, Robin. I had never heard of Arbonne and rolled my eyes at the thought of someone selling it.

Arbonne’s anti-aging skincare line, Re9, helped clear up Robin’s daughter’s acne so I purchased it and gave it a shot. After a few weeks my skin was still not clearing up so I texted Robin and within a matter of 2 hours I was on a zoom call with someone talking about my skin… this is when it hit me hard that people in this company are there to HELP YOU.

I was embarrassed as ever, but they asked me things such as my diet, my stress levels, what makeup I was using, shampoo, etc. and I swapped out my Re9 Skincare Line for Arbonne’s Clear Future.

I also hadn’t been fueling my body properly and it showed through my skin. I now understand that cutting dairy and gluten out of my diet has helped my skin tremendously!

Please note that there are many different face maps, but for the most part they all share the same common ideas of areas such as diet, stress, hormones, etc.

Monitor Your Skin
+ Take Pictures

  • I found out I kept breaking out in cystic acne around my forehead about 4 days after using toxic hairspray I would have breakouts

  • With my old makeup I would break out in tiny bumps

  • When I eat dairy I normally get chin/cheek breakouts

  • Is it more oily in certain areas? Skip out on moisturizing there for a day

  • Where do you normally break out? Skin mapping is a thing!


Diet

  • Drink a lot of water every day (half your body weight in ounces)

  • Try to cut out dairy, gluten, sugar, fried foods, or do the Arbonne 30 Day Program

  • Have your daily probiotics


Don’t Pick!

  • I struggle with this one the most - I bought these stickers HERE to stop myself from picking as much

  • Picking spreads bacteria, can cause scarring, and only slows down the healing process


Stop Stressing

Easier said than done, but take a relaxing bath, read a book - try to not stress over your skin… be patient and monitor how your skin is doing


Still Breaking Out?

What else can you do to clear up your skin?

  • Change your pillow case every 3 days

  • use new face towels every time you wash your face

  • never sleep with your makeup on
    + use makeup without chemicals / harsh ingredients

  • drink enough water every day

  • have probiotics

  • clean your cell phone

  • de-stress

  • workout

  • exfoliate 1-2x a week

  • mask at least once a week

  • avoid junk food

  • Wash your makeup brushes with your face wash

  • add in veggies & healthy nutrients into your diet

  • stick to a skincare regimen

  • avoid alcohol

  • don’t pick your skin

  • clean your facial brush (or stop using to see if that might be irritating skin)

  • go outside and get some vitamin d - at least 20 min a day

  • get enough sleep (7.5-8.5 hrs a night in the complete darkness)

  • Cut back on coffee (throws off skin’s ph)

  • use a shower filter (metals in the water of a shower)

  • be aware of what you are putting in your hair (serums, shampoo, hair spray)

  • stop touching your face throughout the day

  • stop smokinG
